Title: Assistant Coach
Reports To: Head Coach / High School or Middle School Athletic Director
Employment Status: Seasonal
Qualifications: 1. Valid driver's license.
- State of Ohio Pupil Activity Permit.
- Clear FBI/BCI Background Checks.
- Proof of above must be on file with the Athletic Director prior to coaching.
- Coaching and administrative abilities.
- Ability to relate to, communicate with and inspire young athletes.
- Knowledge of prevention and care of athletic injuries.
- Organizational skills/resources to enhance the program.
- Skill in oral presentations.
- Ability to collaborate with other coaches.
- Desire to invest time during season.
- Knowledge of the sport with emphasis on fundamentals.
- Knowledge of training and conditioning techniques.
- Ability to diagnose player deficiencies and prescribe corrective activities.
- Ability to make minor repairs on equipment.
- Professional tact, diplomacy and presentation with administrators, staff, teachers, students, parents and the community.
- Conscientious and assume responsibility for own work.
- Good health, high moral character and good attendance record.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm and a sincere desire to aid all students.
General Description: To cooperatively work with the head coach to prepare a sport team for interscholastic competition.
Essential Functions:
- Assist in issuing uniforms and equipment to players.
- Help collect and inventory equipment at end of season.
- Assist in labeling and recording equipment issued.
- Help prepare locker room and lockers for players.
- Assist in the collection of fees.
- Assist in the preparation of the field for practice sessions and games.
- Assist with the inventory and stocking of medical supplies in first aid kits.
- Help organize practice sessions.
- Help supervise players during practice sessions, meetings and locker room activities.
- Assist players in prevention and care of injuries.
- Assist in administering physical examinations forms for all athletes.
- Shall be accountable for all players meeting necessary requirements pertaining to insurance, physical cards, eligibility forms and athletic waivers.
- Supervise players on all bus trips.
- Attend rule interpretation meetings.
- Attend coaches’ meetings.
- Perform game duties as assigned.
- Perform practice duties as assigned.
- Participate in awards program by distributing awards to players.
- Support the program as a whole.
- Follow and enforce the District’s Athletic Handbook.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
- Help instill in students the belief in and practice of sportsmanship, ethics and integrity, as it pertains to the Board of Education Policy 2431 – Interscholstic Athletics.
- Conduct other duties related to the assistant coach’s duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and/or Principal.
Additional Working Conditions:
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
- Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions.
- Occasional interaction with challenging behaviors.
